I was invited to be interviewed on Salaam Britain about my career journey to becoming a coach and how I’ve helped women to find their purpose and thrive in a career they love. Driving down, I felt both nervous and excited. Although I had spoken on podcasts and delivered a talk at my local Muay Thai gym, this wasn’t the same. This was much bigger than anything I’d done before.
I drove down the night before, accompanied by my brother and sister. We laughed and snacked and they interviewed me with some practice questions. Preparing for the interview helped calm my nerves as I wanted my first TV appearance to run smoothly. We arrived at the hotel a little tired, but ready to go out and eat at a nice restaurant. We wanted to make this an experience to be remembered.
My brother and sister are my biggest supporters, they have seen the highs and lows of my career journey. They have supported me from the very beginning of Salama Coaching and when I first started my coaching career. They were with me when I was recording my very first video for Instagram and saw how much I tried to speak confidently but each video we recorded wasn’t quite right. I’m grateful that I get to look back and reflect on how far I’ve come since that day. One thing you’ll learn from me is resilience, perseverance and determination. When you find your purpose, you’ll want to do everything you can to achieve your goals.
It's Monday 8th May, todays the day I get to go live on Salaam Britain and be interviewed about my passion. I woke up feeling excited and incredibly nervous! I was worried that the nerves would get the better of me. Thankfully I wasn’t alone and my sister was there to calm my nerves. Before we knew it, we were at the Islam Channel TV studio.
I was welcomed and briefed. Whilst I was waiting for my time to go into the recording studio I kept smiling and telling myself, “I have an inspiring story to share that people want to hear, I have amazing family and friends supporting me and they want to see me succeed”. I made the dua (prayer) that Musa AS made to Allah SWT
My Lord, expand for me my chest [with assurance] and ease for me my task and untie the knot from my tongue that they may understand my speech.” (Qur’an 20:25-28)
When you believe in your purpose, have passion and trust in Allah, it gives you a feeling of confidence and calmness because you know it’s your calling and everything is written.
As I sat down and had the mic attached to me, I felt nervous but that didn’t last for long. The presenters Ayesha and Khalila were so lovely and friendly which made it easier for me to relax and be myself. I loved answering their questions, giving career tips and sharing the success stories of some of the amazing clients I’ve coached and their journeys to finding purpose in their career. I felt comfortable in the interview seat and had so much to give, as the TV interview came to an end, I felt incredibly grateful for the opportunity.
And as I always say, you should celebrate your wins! This was a win for me indeed and we celebrated with brunch and Moroccan goodies (Hawai and Raibi Jamila!) before heading back home.
I hope my story inspires you to take action on your dreams, because anything is possible. A friend of mine who used to be my client reminded me of how we need to step outside of our comfort zone because that’s when change happens.
